A two-run homer by Daniel Vogelbach and a combined three-hit shutout by four Brewers pitchers finally ended a 17-game winning streak by St. Louis 4-0.
The Cardinals had beaten Milwaukee five straight times before Wednesday’s game as Adrian Houser earned his 10th win by blanking the home team for the first five innings.
Manny Pina also added his 13th home run as Milwaukee won its 95th game of the season.
A pair of lefties meet in the rubber game of the series this afternoon (September 30th) as Brett Anderson takes on J-A Happ. That game will be aired on 107.9 FM WOMT starting at 11:40 following the 11:00 news report.
It’s not all good news in Milwaukee, as reliever Devin Williams is likely out for the remainder of the season, and the postseason.
Williams reportedly fractured his throwing hand when he punched a wall while celebrating his team’s NL Central Division title win.
This injury will require surgery, leaving the Crew without their main set-up man for All-Star closer Josh Hader.
