The expansion project on Highway 23 in Sheboygan County is nearly done, to the relief of many motorists.
According to the Department of Transportation, the westbound lanes have opened up to two lanes of traffic, and only a few items remain on the eastbound lanes.
Once those items are complete, the eastbound lanes will be completely opened, and traffic will flow as normal, at least in Sheboygan County.
Work on the Fond du Lac County portion will continue well into next year.
This project was a long time coming, as it took more than 40 years of campaigning to make it happen.
