Girl Scout Emma Klatt from Manitowoc was awarded a $2,000 scholarship from Girl Scouts of the USA for her Gold Award, the highest achievement a Girl Scout can earn.
The first part of Emma’s two-fold Gold Award project provided 20 duffel bags fully stocked with clothing, pillows and pillowcases, towels, and personal hygiene items to the local domestic violence shelter, InCourage.
The second part of Emma’s project was to prevent and assist those experiencing violence in the home by educating hundreds of community members through posters, flyers, information sheets, educational videos, and presentations to community groups about the signs of domestic violence, the cycles of abuse, and how to get help.
Emma reacted to receiving the Gold Award by saying, “It means so much to me that my project made an impact, and I get to spread the word even more. This scholarship is helping me pursue my dream of becoming a biomolecular engineer and my ultimate goal of becoming a physician.”
