About 500 workers at a paper mill in Rhinelander now face an uncertain future after a company announcement Tuesday.
One of the paper machines at the Ahlstrom Munksjo Mill will be idled by December.
The company says the move is aimed at making the plant more efficient – so it can stay competitive in the industry.
A spokesperson says open positions at the plant will be assessed between now and next summer.
Other parts of the Oneida County facility will be affected by shutting down the machine.
Officials say they can’t know how many workers will be impacted until they actually take that step.
