If the small sample of people in attendance is anything to go by, the decision to not merge the Village of Hobart Police Department with the Brown County Sheriff’s Office was the right one.
The residents that were in attendance at the meeting where the village trustees voted 3-2 in favor of keeping the Police Department intact applauded the decision.
If the Village had decided to join forces with the Sheriff’s Department, they would have followed the likes of Suamico and Bellevue, who previously had voted to have their police force absorbed by the countywide law enforcement agency.
The trustees will now look into building a police station, a project expected to cost around $5 million.
