Election clerks in Milwaukee and Brown counties are standing firm in their decisions to refuse to turn over ballots from last November’s presidential election.
Democratic Milwaukee County Clerk George Christenson says his county has proven its elections are transparent and fair “on numerous occasions.”
Shortly after that comment last Friday, an attorney for Republican Brown County Clerk Patrick Moynihan said he would take the same stance.
Both officials question the validity of the subpoenas issued by the leader of the Legislature’s elections committee.
The pressure could increase if Assembly Speaker Robin Vos decides he will sign subpoenas as part of the investigation, which could cause a legal standoff.
