Across the country, attitudes towards cannabis legalization are shifting, with less than 10% of Americans supporting the continued prohibition of cannabis.
Health officials are looking at cannabis legalization as a way to address disparities in communities of color as well as in public health.
Dr. Angela Janis supports the legalization of weed, and said in a statement, “Cannabis criminalization laws are not effective and negatively impact public health…We need policies that start to address Wisconsin’s significant health disparities, and cannabis legalization is one of the ways to achieve this.”
Madison Senator Melissa Agard agreed, saying “The most dangerous thing about cannabis is that it remains illegal. Cannabis prohibition harms communities across our state through over-policed and outdated drug policies.”
