The Dayton Flyers are a volleyball team on the rise but they got a dose of reality Thursday night.
Coach Kelly Sheffield’s number-two-ranked Badgers swept the visitors at U-W Fieldhouse 25-13, 25-19, and 25-23.
Sheffield knows the program well because he won four Atlantic 10 titles when he coached there, leading the program to five appearances in the N-C-A-A Tournament.
The Flyers already faced one top opponent before coming to Madison.
They were swept by defending national champion Kentucky last week.
In Thursday’s match, Dana Rettke, Grace Loberg, and Devyn Robinson combined for 31 of the Badgers’ 47 kills. Robinson hit a team-high .562. Lauren Barnes led U-W with eight digs and Wisconsin servers had four aces.
The same two teams meet tonight (September 3rd) with the first serve at 7:00 p-m.
