
If you ask anyone in the U.S. who has not lived or visited Wisconsin to describe the state, most likely they will use words like cheese, brats, or beer.
Brown County Executive Troy Streckenbach is looking to quell the stigma surround the city of Green Bay as being a “Drunk City” by declaring September “Sober Green Bay Campaign” month.
He explained that he is not trying to start another prohibition, but rather to develop a socially sober-friendly community.
The proclamation is not just about drinking alcohol though, as the abuse of illicit drugs and prescription medication continues to be a problem.
According to Brown County, recent data shows that approximately 8.1% of Wisconsinites have a substance use disorder and in 2019 there was a rate of 19.1 opioid-related emergency room visits per 100,000 residents in Brown County.
