The City of Sheboygan and Commonwealth Development are in the planning process to construct an affordable housing complex in the city.
Commonwealth approached the city with the idea last year, but the project was delayed until a housing study was done.
Now, the project is going through the approval process, with land already rezoned at the intersection of South 14th Street and Illinois Avenue. This could take through the end of the year, and then the project would begin in 2022.
The proposed structure would include 14 one-bedroom units, 14 two-bedroom units, and 20 units boasting three bedrooms. The 48-unit building would stand three stories tall, and would have 80 parking stalls.
This housing structure is expected to help address the affordable housing needs in the city, which could also bring in a new wave of workers.
