A woman was arrested in Manitowoc yesterday (August 25th) after she attempted to cash a forged check.
Officers were informed of the situation at the U.S. Bank located in the 1600 block of Washington Street at around 3:30 PM and went to investigate.
The 44-year-old woman claimed that her sister had written the check a few days prior, but a bank worker explained that the account the check was linked to had been closed several years prior.
After the woman was presented with that fact, she admitted to writing the check but still claimed that her sister had approved of her actions.
Officers contacted the sister, who denied giving her permission, and officers with the Two Rivers Police Department met with the suspect to collect the remainder of the checks she had at her home.
When she arrived, she was reportedly driving a car that was stolen from her sister the day before.
The woman admitted to stealing the vehicle, and has been charged with Forgery, and Operating a Motor Vehicle Without the Owner’s Consent.
