The leader of Milwaukee Public Schools says he doesn’t expect students to be dismissed early again today (August 26th).
Superintendent Keith Posley says the need to let students out due to heat illustrates a big problem for the district – very little air conditioning.
Posley says only 24 of the district’s 142 buildings are completely air-conditioned.
29 of those buildings have no air conditioning at all.
Fixing the problem would be expensive.
Posley says it would cost an estimated $2.5 million to add air conditioning at the district’s high schools.
He says it’s actually a statewide problem.
