While everyone is struggling to find workers, one of the most concerning labor shortages lies within the legal system.
Many Counties are struggling to find public defenders, leading to a backlog of cases.
In an attempt to curb that trend, Brown County officials have called on Governor Tony Evers to use federal funds to help solve the public defender shortage.
The area lawmakers sent letters to the governor requesting the funds, and did so in a bi-partisan measure of support, noting that more than 300 defendants in Brown County are waiting for a public defender.
The issue is also reportedly putting a strain on the county budget since inmates have to be kept in jail longer.
And the public defenders that are on the books are overworked, as are many workers at the Courthouse.
