Utility crews spent most of Wednesday afternoon working to cap a major gas leak in Darlington.
Residents living nearby were evacuated and city streets in the area were closed for an hour-and-a-half.
After stopping the leak, workers for Alliant Energy turned their attention to repairing the problem.
No injuries were reported and no fire or property damage was caused.
Darlington police say a highway contraction crew caused the problem by hitting an underground gas line.
The accident was reported at about 1:50 p-m.
