For those who use the public library, forgetting to return a book is almost an inevitability. Mistakes happen, and for many, the book is returned a day or two after it is supposed to be, resulting in a late fee.
The Mead Public Library in Sheboygan understands that and is considering waiving all late fees.
They had a sort of trial run during the pandemic, as they eliminated late fees for children, but at a recent meeting, the Library’s Finance Committee passed a motion to wave all adult overdue fines beginning September 1st.
That motion will now go before the full Board for consideration.
Any damaged or lost materials would still be billed to the patron
