Last week we reported that scammers have been pretending to be law enforcement in Manitowoc County, namely targeting sex offenders.
Now, a similar scam has been reported in Oshkosh.
The Police Department has reported that numerous people have reported getting a phone call from someone who claimed to be an employee at the Police Department.
The scammers are reportedly demanding payment for a multitude of reasons, but say they must be made in the form of a gift card.
No governmental agency would ever call you and demand payment in the form of a gift card. Most would require you to pay in person.
If you receive a call from anyone claiming to be Law Enforcement, you are being advised to hang up, and call the actual entity the individual claimed to be part of. If they actually needed you for something, they will tell you.
