After months of debate both in the Council Chambers and in the public, the Manitowoc Common Council is scheduled to vote on the proposal to make two major downtown roadways two-way streets again.
The change would affect 8th Street between Washington Street and Waldo Boulevard, and 10th Street between Washington and St. Clair Streets, and North 11th Street from St. Clair to Waldo.
Supporters of the change say it will help downtown businesses, while those in opposition point to a 1957 study, which showed that the change was made to help ease traffic flow.
Mayor Justin Nickels has been a major proponent of the change which would cost an estimated $500,000.
The Common Council Meeting is scheduled to begin at 6:30 PM, in Manitowoc’s City Hall.
