The Oshkosh woman who allegedly attempted to hire a hitman is being held on a $1 million cash bond.
The investigation into 38-year-old Melissa A. Smith began back in July when the Oshkosh Police Vice and Narcotics Unit and Lake Winnebago Area MEG Unit used an informant to attempt to put Smith in touch with an undercover investigator.
That plan did not pan out, as she refused to talk to a stranger.
She said she had a specific hitman in mind, and wanted the target dead because he was “selling drugs, had urinated on her bed, and had stolen her handgun.”
Smith was also in the process of making plans to flee to the Dominican Republic after the hit.
An informant asked for materials for the hit, which Smith supplied, resulting in her arrest. Smith has her preliminary hearing scheduled for August 19th.
