A team of researchers led by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Office of National Marine Sanctuaries started conduction a survey of the Wisconsin Shipwreck Coast National Marine Sanctuary in Lake Michigan late last month.
The research team is investigating portions of Lakes Michigan and Ontario using autonomous vehicles outfitted with remote sensing instruments.
The collected data will be used to characterize lakebed habitat and identify submerged maritime heritage resources such as shipwrecks.
The team is scheduled to host a learning experience in Two Rivers for 20 local educators.
