There was a lot on the line Saturday (July 31st) at Lakeland University in Howards Grove as the Sheboygan County SaberCats took on the Milwaukee County Chargers.
A win meant the SaberCats would have the #1 seed entering the playoffs, while a loss would drop them to the #3 seed.
Several dropped passes and penalties stalled SaberCats drives, leaving them trailing 22-6 with six minutes left in the game.
The Cats were able to score a touchdown, but it looked as though it wouldn’t matter, as the Chargers were driving deep in SaberCats territory with about four minutes left.
However, a stripped ball and fumble return to around the 50 gave new life to the team.
They were able to tie the game up and won in overtime on a beautiful catch in the corner of the endzone by Steve Strong.
The SaberCats end the regular season with a record of 6-2, and enter the playoffs as the #1 Seed.
The Midwest United Football League playoff bracket has the SaberCats taking on the Chicago Chaos, a team they lost to twice in the regular season.
