Several million dollars would go into replacing local lead water pipes under a recommendation from Manitowoc County Executive Bob Ziegelbauer.
In a news release, Ziegelbauer noted that the county will get $23 million from the American Rescue Plan passed by the US Congress earlier this year.
He notes that the money will be split with two-thirds of it going to the county and the rest to cities, villages, and towns on a per-capita basis, but Ziegelbauer is proposing that the next annual county budget would share the money on a 50-50 basis with the municipalities for the replacement of lead laterals in their water systems.
Ziegelbauer said that under his proposal, local communities like Kiel, Two Rivers, Valders and Manitowoc could make real progress on the replacement.
