Update July 19, 2021, 8:20 PM:
A large power outage on Monday afternoon started about 3:01 PM and knocked out a large portion of Manitowoc’s electrical grid.
A witness at Red Arrow Park reported hearing a large boom from the direction of the MPU power plant followed by a very loud hissing, this was most likely the boilers releasing steam from an emergency valve as MPU reported a parts failure in the system.
It’s not clear if this parts failure was at the main power generating plant.

A large portion of Manitowoc is currently experiencing a power outage. The outage started approximately at 3:02 PM.
There is no word yet on when power will be restored.
