City of Manitowoc Henry Schuette Park
Earlier this week, it was announced that the community-built playground in Manitowoc’s Upper Henry Schuette Park will be undergoing maintenance starting on Monday.
Manitowoc Mayor Justin Nickels is asking for the public’s help at the playground located at 3800 Broadway Street.
“Activities include carpentry, landscaping, painting sanding, and more,” Nickels explained. “Carpentry experience is preferred, but not necessary. Volunteers should be at least 14 years old, and anyone under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.”

Mayor Nickels also gave us a little history lesson on the creation of the park.
“In 2001, two members of our community came forward with an idea for a playground that would rival any in our nation,” he said. “Two years of planning, and thousands of volunteers later, culminated in a six-day build, that produced a one of a kid play structure that has been a destination for families in and out of our community for almost two decades.”
Additional maintenance may be required after next week, and the park may be closed as late as July 30th.
Those who wish to help out should contact the Parks Department at 920-686-3580, or Brock Wetenkamp via email at bwetenkamp@manitowoc.org.
