The Manitowoc Fire Rescue Department responded to a total of ten fires in June, which is double June 2020’s numbers.
Last year, there were only five fires, and only one of them was a structure fire. Five of the fires last month were structure fires and brings the year-to-date total up to 20.
In total this year so far, there have been 66 fires, with 41 of them listed as other, meaning not structure or vehicle fires.
Those fires have caused an estimated $5.8 million in property damage, and just over $115,000 worth of property inside the homes have been destroyed.
Also, EMS calls were up last month compared to last year. 14 calls were received for medical personnel last month, which is again double the number from last year.
In total, 76 calls for EMS have been received so far this year.
The Fire-Rescue Department has also responded to a total of 93 false alarms, 18 of those occurring last month. That figure is up from 12 in June of 2020.
