
According to the numbers released by the Manitowoc Police Department, officers in the Clipper City are much busier this year than they were last year.
In June of this year, they were called to service 2,887 times, which is over 300 more calls than in June of 2020.
However, those calls generated fewer criminal charges. 132 charges were filed against adults, and seven against juveniles last month, compared to 146 against adults and 8 against juveniles last June.
But when you look at the year-to-date statistics, 901 total charges have been filed against adults so far this year, compared to 872 by his time last year.
The youth of Manitowoc appear to be behaving better this year, as only 45 charges have been filed against juveniles so far this year, compared to 87 by this time last year.
Also, as would be expected with more vehicles on the road, traffic citations are up significantly. 211 tickets were issued last month, while 142 were issued in June of 2020.
That trend is followed in the year-to-date stats, as 1,468 tickets have been written so far this year, compared to 1,016 by this time in 2020.
