The lightning show last night was rather pretty at times, but an incident in Kiel is a stern reminder of the danger of the electrical weather phenomenon.
Fire crews were dispatched to a home in the 600 block of 10th Street at around 9:45 PM after lightning struck the home, causing a fire.
The residents of the single-family home were able to evacuate the building, and crews used ladder trucks to battle to blaze that was on the roof.
The fire was contained in about 10 minutes, but crews remained on the scene for three hours.
There were no injuries reported, however, the cost of the lightning strike is estimated to be around $75,000.
