The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) and the Wisconsin Department of Revenue (DOR) are warning Wisconsin taxpayers of some suspicious mailings regarding tax collection.
The DATCP and DOR have reports from multiple counties of individuals receiving fraudulent letters related to tax collection cases.
You can identify the fraudulent letters by looking for a return listing the “Benefits Suspension Unit,” a Wisconsin county, and “Public Judgement Records”, a fake government seal with an image of the US in a circle as opposed to a state, county or municipal seal, postage marking LA as the origin of the letter, and no information on remitting payment.
If you have been the victim of a scam, report it by filing a complaint on the DATCP website, by emailing DTCPTHotline@wisconsin.gov, or by calling 1-800-422-7128.
