A doctor at the Green Bay VA Clinic has been fired after an investigation by the Wisconsin Medical Examining Board.
A disciplinary proceedings report released by the Board stated that Dr. Annette Stokes gave patients a controlled drug called phentermine without first entering the information into the state’s Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (PDMP).
This is a breach of protocol, as Doctors are required to enter the information in order to help quell the prescription drug abuse problem.
Phentermine is a weight loss drug that can be addicting and easily abused due to the short amount of time it is supposed to be prescribed.
Stokes reportedly began dispensing the drug two years ago, but concerns by co-workers yielded no investigation.
Stokes claims to have never compromised patient care, calling her performance at the VA Clinic “exemplary and without complaints”, citing her annual performance reviews.
