With everything that has happened over the past year, one thing is for certain, the senior classes of 2020 and 2021 have had an end to their high school years that will go down as some of the most unique in history.
The Manitowoc Lincoln Senior Class of 2021 are now looking toward the future but will spend one more afternoon together at their graduation ceremony, which will be held outside the school at 1:00 this afternoon (June 11th).
We spoke with Lincoln Principal Lee Thennes, who voiced his happiness that these fine young men and women will be able to celebrate together.
“Our senior officers have done a great job of rallying the troops, getting everybody organized, and having people working really hard getting caught up with school,” he said. “During the pandemic, that was a challenge for some kids.”
While this year’s ceremony is going to look very similar to a traditional Lincoln graduation, Thennes explained that they did reduce the attendance limit to about 70%.
“We were able to get each graduate four tickets for down inside the bowl area, as well as a couple of tickets for our ushers and flower girls,” he explained.
Thennes did say that the same number of staff members will be present and that there are a few other small precautions in place. For instance, the staff on stage will not shake the graduate’s hands, but will rather just give them their diploma, and congratulate them verbally.
Also, masks will be required while the students are in the school but will become optional once they exit the building.
Thennes told Seehafer News that they are hoping for a beautiful day, “with all the pomp and circumstance that these kids deserve that we weren’t able to provide live and in person last year. This is going to be one heck of a celebration.”
The graduation ceremony will be aired on 97.1 FM WCUB, and at CubRadio.com starting at 1:00 PM.
