A Sheboygan Falls man is having his 2018 conviction on child sex charges reversed after the appeals court ruled that his confession was illegally obtained.
Daniel Rejholec was in police custody for over an hour, denying any wrongdoing before Detective Eric Edson reportedly told him that if he didn’t confess, he wouldn’t be able to testify before a jury.
After that Rejholec gave statements that resulted in his conviction.
The court ruled that Rejholec’s statement “became invalid when his interrogator misrepresented his right to silence, his right to counsel, and his right to testify at trial.”
Rejholc’s appeal trial will now continue, with the statements made after that point in the interrogation being ignored.
Rejholec was already serving a 12-year prison term for Repeated Sexual Assault of a Child.
