It was quite the scene in Manitowoc yesterday (June 9th), as police officers had weapons drawn for a traffic stop near the intersection of Dale and South 29th Streets.
According to LT. Arps with the Manitowoc Police Department, they received a call in the early afternoon of a fight involving as many as 16 people at Pulaski Park. The person who reported the fight said they saw an individual reach into their waistband in a way that looked like they were reaching for a gun.
Officers pulled a suspect vehicle over and performed what is termed a high-risk traffic stop. LT. Arps explained that in such a stop, the officers have the occupants of the vehicle exit and come back to them for “the safety of the occupants of the vehicle, the safety of the public, and the safety of the police”.
LT. Arps also voiced his thanks to a resident of the area who assisted the officers on the scene with traffic control until additional officers arrived.
One arrest was made. Manitowoc resident Dezmond I. Brown was charged with Disorderly Conduct, and quickly posted his bail.
There were no injuries reported, and no weapons were fired.
