The pandemic resulted in many people doing some different things, and for one Manitowoc family, that meant taking their lifestyle, and opening a business around it.
The Steimle family, consisting of the matriarch Beth and her children Eli and Megan, have been creating their own juice for many years, something Beth said has been a part of her life for as long as she can remember. “We grew our own vegetables, we canned our own vegetables, and when I started having children, my mother, who raised six of use, continued to grow enough vegetables for my six children,” she explained. “So it’s just kind of a family thing.” Beth is a certified colon hydrotherapist and worked with patients for over 20 years.
She said through her experience that the phrase “you are what you eat” isn’t exactly accurate. She prefers to say “you are what you absorb”. She also said that “people are overeating and starving to death”. “What you need to do is stop the digestion process…and start absorbing it,” Beth said. “In order to do that you have to get rid of the fiber. When I worked with my clients, who usually had serious diseases, I told them we would be doing a juice fast.” Eli explained that in order to do a proper juice fast or juice cleanse, you have to be picky about which juices you put into your body. He suggested utilizing juices that are produced in a cold press.
“The difference between cold press juice and regular juice that you are going to find in the store is it’s not pasteurized,” Eli told Seehafer News. “By pasteurized, I mean they heat up the juice so it has a longer shelf life, but in that heating process, you kill all the nutrients in it.”
A downside to cold press juice is that it has a shorter shelf life, typically lasting between seven and ten days from the date it was made. The Steimle’s have taken their knowledge of cold press juicing and have started Hipp Juice, where they not only sell the juice but also teach their customers about its effects. They are located inside Grow it Forward at 1501 Marshall Street in Manitowoc. Since they make their own juice each day, they have a limited amount for sale. They currently operate from 6:30 AM to 9:30 AM Tuesdays through Thursdays, and 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Saturdays, or until they run out of product. Stop on in to learn more, or visit their Facebook page, or website, which is HippJuice.com.
