The Two Rivers City Council met on Monday, where they looked over a proposal to amend the city ordinance on UTV and ATV usage on city streets.
We spoke with City Manager Greg Buckley, who explained that under the current ordinance, it is not legal, with one exception.
“State law that requires the city to allow ATVs and UTVs to operate on city streets in the wintertime if being used for snow plowing, like a private service,” Buckley told Seehafer News.
With two members absent, the Council voted 5-2 in opposition to the proposed change, meaning it remains illegal to ride the vehicles on City streets.
“There was some sentiment for making that change, but Council members…heard from a number of people opposed to the change,” Buckley said. “It was also noted that Two Rivers is not located near or on any major UTV or ATV trails, like come communities are. And they are not presently allowed on any state highways or county highways, so any routes in or out of town would be very very limited.”
A separate proposal from Sepia Chapel regarding the use of golf carts on city streets was also looked at.
Currently, they can be used privately, but not for commercial usage.
An ordinance is currently being written and will be discussed in further detail during a June meeting.
