According to recent reports, gun violence is on the rise in Green Bay, and in a big way.
There have been 27 confirmed reports of shots being fired since the start of the year, which is three times as many as there were last year when nine were reported. Before you think that the pandemic had anything to do with that low number, there were only eight in the first four and a half months of 2019.
More often than not, drugs are involved in the shootings, and thankfully no deaths have been reported this year so far.
olice also say that the shootings aren’t limited to any specific neighborhood or area of the city, making it an even bigger problem.
The Police Department has formed a Violent Crimes Suppression Task Force in an attempt to quell the influx of shootings. This group focuses on outreach programs to develop a relationship between the community and the police department.
