Recently, the City of Manitowoc mailed out correspondence regarding Weed/Grass or Sidewalk Shoveling Violations.
Dan Koski, the Director of Public Infrastructure for the City, explained that those letters were meant for informational purposes only.
He said in a news release, “Typically, this information would have been included with your property taxes. However, this year this did not occur because there were modifications to the fee structure as a result of changes to State Statutes.”
The letter was intended to proactively provide information to properties that had received complaints in recent years but is not in itself a notice of violation.
Also, there was an internal error in how this list was generated. As a result, some properties received a letter even though they may not have been responsible for a prior violation, for example, if the property had changed ownership within that time period.
Koski apologized for this confusion.
