The President of the Manitowoc County Tavern League said the COVID-19 pandemic had a major impact on the bar business.
Tim “Tippy” Tomchek tells Seehafer News that if you didn’t sell food, you were closed for two months last spring.
“If you were serving food, you were only doing takeout’s because you couldn’t have people come in,” he said. “We did takeout at our establishment and we did really well. Some places chose not to or closed while others cut back on their hours. Everybody had to make their own choice.”
Tomchek explained that a lot of supper clubs got hurt, “Because supper clubs had people used to coming in and having a glass of wine or old fashion then having dinner, followed by an after-dinner drink. Obviously, they make their money over the bar, not their food.”
He added, “That took a toll on the supper clubs and to this day I’m sure a lot of them aren’t back to one hundred percent like they were before.”
