
For a 38th consecutive year, the City of Manitowoc –in conjunction with Arbor Day– received its 2020 Tree City USA Award honoring the city’s commitment to effective urban forest management.
In addition, Mayor Justin Nickels says the city received a Tree City U.S.A. Growth Award for demonstrating environmental improvement and a higher level of tree care. Nickels adds that the city had to meet four criteria to receive the honor, have an active tree board, have a tree care ordinance, have an annual community forestry budget of at least two dollars per capita, and have an Arbor Day Observance and proclamation which he recently signed.
The Manitowoc Chapter of the Izaak Walton League donated an Ohio Buckeye and Red Oak Tree which were planted in Red Arrow Park and Lakeside Foods Office Personnel also donated and planted a Baumann Horse Chestnut Tree at Washington Park.
