Stevens Point native Cole Caufield skated in his first National Hockey League contest Monday night as the Montreal Canadians edged the Calgary Flames 2-1.
The 20-year-old Caufield won the Hobey Baker Award while playing for the Wisconsin Badgers last winter, leading all college players in scoring.
He didn’t score in his first professional game, but Caufield took four shots on goal.
He was a first-round pick, taken 15th overall by the Canadiens in the 2019 N-H-L Draft.
Caufield became the 88th former Badgers to take the ice for an N-H-L game.
