Equipment for firefighters is not cheap, so the Silver Creek Fire Department is asking for donations.
According to a release from the Department, the full replacement of gear costs over $8,000 per firefighter, and they need $225,000 to equip their new members. A single helmet costs $310, a jacket and pants cost $1,850, while a self-contained breathing apparatus, or SCBA unit, will set the department back $5,500. The 28-member department has served the Towns of Manitowoc and Manitowoc Rapids since 1947.
