Manitowoc Lincoln brings home three medals from the WIAA Fall State Alternate Girls Tennis Tournament in Lake Geneva.
Freshman Olivia Minikel placed fourth in singles while the senior doubles tandem of Elsie Steimle and Kendra Peterson take home a sixth-place medal.
Ships Head Coach Stephanie Henschel says, “Everyone who played at state brought home a medal for the first time in program history. To do it under these circumstances with an unwavering positive attitude is huge. We’ll all think back on this year with fond lifetime memories.”
In regards to the Freshman, she says, “Olivia had a fantastic year and grew tremendously playing tough competition losing only to those who placed above her at state. This is a great building block for her. She’s super motivated to come back and perform very well.”
The Ships Head Coach on her seniors going out on a high note, “They along with a lot of seniors had mixed feelings about this season after missing out on so many things last year. I’m proud of how they took this by the horns and ended their high school careers as being one of the best doubles teams in the state.”
Minikel finishes her season with a record of 16 and 3 while Steimle and Peterson finish their senior season at 16 and 4. Henschel adds “I couldn’t be more proud of this entire team. Considering all the upheaval (due to COVID) they had this opportunity to play and made the most of it.”
