Manitowoc Fire Crews were called to a structure fire early this morning (April 22nd).
According to Fire Chief Todd Blaser, the call came in at around 1:10 AM, reporting the fire in the 2300 block of Paul Road. The caller was also concerned that they were unable to wake their neighbor so they could evacuate, however when crews arrived, all occupants had escaped the building.
The fire was brought under control in about 10 minutes, with one of the residents suffering from smoke inhalation and a superficial burn to their arm. That individual was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
While we do not have a damage cost estimate, we do know the fire started in the kitchen on a stovetop. A resident was reportedly boiling water when some paper products near the stove caught fire. The resident attempted to extinguish the blaze but was unsuccessful.
The Manitowoc Fire Rescue Department was assisted on the scene by the Manitowoc Police Department, MPU, and WPS.
