Solar energy has become quite popular over the past several years, with new farms popping up in rural Two Rivers, and another one planned for Sheboygan sometime in the future.
These solar power farms power portions of cities, however, the panels can be used on a much smaller scale as well.
Take for example the Algoma School District, where they are generating roughly 25% of their power through the use of solar panels.
This change has saved the District an estimated $9,000 in energy costs since it went online in September.
While these systems are not cheap, the District was able to offset some of the cost through grants.
This also brings the added side effect of reducing the District’s carbon footprint.
