Manitowoc County Sheriff Dan Hartwig
It’s no secret that there is a drug problem in this country. The problem tends to be worse in cities that have larger populations, such as Milwaukee, and in the surrounding areas, such as Manitowoc County.
We recently spoke with Sheriff Dan Hartwig, who said “Meth use is a major problem in our community. Our Drug Unit is doing their best, but sometimes it’s like fighting a forest fire with a garden hose.”
Another thing that the Sheriff’s Drug Task Force is finding, is that the users and dealers are mixing Fentanyl in with the Meth.
“Fentanyl is a synthetic opiate,” Hartwig explained, “which the mix in with the meth, and creates a very deadly toxin, which causes overdose deaths in our community.”
While the Task Force has a lot of knowledge regarding who is dealing and using these drugs, they don’t know everything. That’s where the community comes in.
Hartwig said, “I always tell people, our citizens are our eyes and ears, and our officers are our hands and feet.”
Hartwig asked that anyone who sees something, say something. You can report any suspicious activity by calling the non-emergency phone number, which is 920-683-4200, or via the P3 app on your phone.
