Manitowoc Police Chief Nick Reimer has expressed sorrow over the recent officer-involved shooting in the Minneapolis area.
During an appearance last week on WOMT’s Be My Guest show he discussed how local officers wear their firearm on their dominant side and their taser on their weak side in order to help prevent confusing the two tools.
He also expressed empathy for the officer, saying “I just want to point out that unless you’re involved in a stressful situation where you have to use some sort of force you really don’t understand the mental process that your mind goes through to figure out what you need to do here and you have to do it right.”
“Don’t get me wrong,” he continued, “it’s a very big tragedy that happened in Minnesota…it’s a stressful situation so we want to make sure we do everything we can to ensure the right tools are used.”
The officer in the Brooklyn Center shooting was Kim Potter, and both she and the police chief have since resigned.
