Manitowoc County Sheriff Dan Hartwig
The pandemic changed the way many workers had to approach their job, and jailers are no exception. In fact, their job got ever harder, as if even a single case of COVID-19 were to have entered the jail, it is likely that the entire population would have caught it, posing many problems.
Manitowoc County Sheriff Dan Hartwig spoke with Seehafer New recently, where he said that his team has dealt with “the 800-pound gorilla that is COVID” very well.
“I have to give a lot of credit to our jail Administrator (Joy Brixius) and our Jail staff,” Hartwig stated. “They put a pandemic plan in, and obviously used other Counties as resources as well, but they did a phenomenal job. We didn’t have a single case of COVID in the entire year in our jail.
He also said that his department has’t “had anyone out on COVID or anything on that in quite a while. We are healthy, and we are doing well.”
The Sheriff’s Department is beginning to loosen certain pandemic restrictions making life much easier on the Deputies who help keep our community safe.
