Over the past few months, the Room Tax Commissions in Manitowoc and Two Rivers have been meeting individually to discuss the agreement they have with each other and the Manitowoc Area Visitor and Convention Bureau.
Tonight all three are scheduled to meet at 5:30 PM in Manitowoc’s City Hall for a formal discussion.
Two Rivers City Manager Greg Buckley explained to Seehafer News that, “Since 2007, Two Rivers has partnered with Manitowoc and the VCB under a Tourism Services Agreement. The current agreement covered a five-year period and ends at the end of this year. This is the three parities getting together to talk about a new agreement.”
Each City’s Room Tax Commission consists of the Mayor/City Manager, some City Council Members, and a local representative of the lodging industry.
As for how each entity benefits from the current agreement, Buckley said, “Both Cities collect an 8% Room Tax per the agreement. About 52% of our Room Tax go to the Visitor and Convention Bureau for tourism promotion and development.”
Buckley also said, “We are hopeful to see this matter resolved in the next month or two so we can go into the end of this year knowing where things stand.”
The City Manager said his City is committed to continuing the agreement, and that the sooner they can come to an agreement the better.
