The Eternal Flame in Manitowoc is very close to being funded forever, as the Eternal Flame Fund is nearing its $200,000 fundraising goal. As a final push to get it there, a golf outing has been planned for this summer.
Manitowoc County Veterans Service Officer Todd Brehmer told Seehafer News that the outing is scheduled for June 19th at Autumn Ridge Golf Course. The shotgun start, 18 hole, four-person scramble will begin at 10:00 AM, with lunch being served on sight.
“We are looking to go over the top of that $200,000 goal,” Brehmer said. “We are at about 90% right now so we are close.”
The Eternal Flame Fund was nearly out of money a few years ago, but thanks to smart planning by former Manitowoc City Finance Director Steve Corbeille, it was determined that if the fund reached $200,000, the interest on that fund would ensure it would never run out of money.
The monument, located on North 18th just south of the intersection with Michigan Avenue, was built in 1923, with the flame being added in 1969.
