The Dane County Board of Supervisors can’t ban them, but its members are reportedly pushing the sheriff to stop using no-knock warrants.
Sheriff Dave Mahoney says his department rarely using the surprise raids, doing so just 11 times last year.
Mahoney says the surprise element can help prevent armed confrontations between authorities and criminal suspects.
Members of the county board are thinking about making it official – by proposing a resolution to formally ask the sheriff to stop using the strategy.
