Milwaukee County Judge Michelle Havas told the 18-year-old defendant he had the worst record she’s ever seen for somebody his age before sentencing Brian Vaughn to 25 years in prison.
Vaughn was 16 when he cut off the GPS bracelet he was wearing and declared on Facebook he would be “messing up the streets of Milwaukee.” Hours after that he was driving a stolen pickup, blew through a red light, and hit another car.
The driver of that car, 41-year-old Garrett Baublit, died.
A jury convicted Vaughn on seven felony charges in February.
Prosecutors say he also threatened or manipulated witnesses in an effort to avoid responsibility for a long list of crimes.
