Spring has sprung and with that comes an influx of kittens up for adoption at the Lakeshore Humane Society in Manitowoc.
Executive Director Tina Nichols told Seehafer News that it is very important to have your cats spayed or neutered to help eliminate unwanted pets in your home.
“You see it all the time on Facebook. People have a litter they’re trying to give away,” she said. “You just don’t know where they’re going to go and what’s going to happen to those kittens. Most of the time they can’t find enough homes for all the kittens they’re trying to give away.”
Nichols also reminding people that if they see a litter of unattended kittens on their or someone else’s property to not bring them to the Humane Society.
”There’s generally a Mom somewhere but she’s smart and either out hunting or hiding from people,” Nichols explained. “If they go quickly and try to scoop up those kittens the likelihood of them surviving is not good. They are extremely fragile and desperately need to be on their mother’s milk for at least six weeks to survive. When they come to the shelter even with a foster Mom their chances of survival is not high.”
She adds that if even if the kittens are crying “Mom’s probably coming back. Please leave them where they are.”
